Clean Your Closet

Kurt: Honey, are you going to do the 1)laundry?
Sandy: I told you, Kurt. I'll be out of town for 3 weeks.
Kurt: Then you're gonna have to teach me. Laundry 101…
Sandy: OK, first your clothes are mostly cotton.
Kurt: What does that have to do with anything?
Sandy: It's about what setting you choose.
Kurt: I just see permanent press, normal, ultra delicate…
Sandy: Permanent press - for 2)causal clothes. It's a medium setting.
Kurt: I have a 3)newfound 4)respect for people who do laundry..
Sandy: Haha. Choose this wrinkle guard setting.
Kurt: So I won't have to 5)iron?
Sandy: Not as much. It keeps 6)wrinkling to a 7)minimum.

1) laundry (n.)
2) casual(a.)(衣服)居家的,輕便的
3) newfound(a.)
4) respect (n.)
5) iron(v., n.)
6) wrinkle(v., n.)
7) minimum (n.) 最小值

there's a word for… ……

A: Want to buy my computer? It's ten years old.

B: There's a word for ten-year-old computers. It's ‘garbage.’

Sand and Sun in the City -1

Lin and Henri are chatting at a coffee shop near Taipei 101.

Lin: Have you heard of the city's plans to put a beach in over there? [Points]
Henri: A beach? Over there?
Lin: Yeah, it'll be done by September or October.
Henri: [1)Incredulously] A BEACH??
Lin: They'll put out beach chairs, and 2)parasols. They're bringing in the sand from Kenting or Fulong or somewhere.
Henri: There's a word for beaches that have no water. They're called deserts! And people die in them.
Lin: [Coldly] Funny. When you came back from Paris you couldn't stop 3)raving about the artificial beach there.
Henri: The one on the Seine? Yes, it was very nice. And romantic.

It might help city dwellers relieve a little stress if the beach environment was created in the city.

Wouldn't it be nice to see women walking around in bikinis on the streets of Taipei?

This will be the second biggest attraction, right after Taipei 101.

Sand and Sun in the City -2

Lin:
 So what's the difference.
Henri: For one, the Seine is a river. How can you pretend you're at the beach if all you see are cars, busses and skyscrapers? You need water. And what if there's a typhoon? There'll be a sandstorm in the city!
Lin: No, they've already looked into that. They'll just cover the sand up with plastic. I think it will be great. Hot summers, afternoon showers, girls in bikinis…it'll make a great beach.
Henri: Girls in bikinis?
Lin: Of course. I even bought a new one today.
Henri: You know what? I'm thinking maybe it's not such a terrible idea after all.

1.To challenge oneself is extremely important.

2.Challenging oneself is extremely important.1

○ Playing tennis is fun.
To play tennis is fun.

○ My hobby is cooking.
○ My hobby is to cook.

○ He began running.
○ He began to run.

● Enjoy
○ I enjoyed playing tennis.
X I enjoyed to play tennis.

● Decide
X I decided seeing him.
○ I decided to see him.

Remember to mail the letter.

I remember mailing the letter.

1.I sometimes enjoy fishing with my cousin.

2.I hated reading books when I was young.

3.I tried to push the door open but I couldn’t, so I pulled it instead.

I hated to read books when I was young.。

1.I like playing golf. = I like to play golf.

2.I enjoyed fishing yesterday.

3.I remember seeing you somewhere in Canada.
