take years off這個片語用來表示「使……顯得比較年輕」，後面可以接人、身體的部位等，像是take years off your face「讓你的臉蛋看起來更為年輕」、Losing weight has taken years of her.「減肥讓她顯得更為年輕。」等。相反地，put years on則表示「使……顯得老一點」。

寫個人書信的訣竅 (十二段中的第三段)
Here are some guidelines to follow as you keep in touch by mail.
1. Write the heading at the top of the first page on the right-hand side. This includes your address and the date. Also, write your address in the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
When writing to close friends, a heading isn't necessary. But always put a return address on the envelope.
這裡有一些在書信連絡時可以遵行的準則。
1. 將信首寫在第一頁的右上方，裡面有你的地址和寫信的的日期，還有將你的地址寫在信封的左上角。寫信給熟朋友時並不需要信首，可是一定要在信封上寫下退件地址。

不定詞－三種用法
◎ 主題句
【當名詞用，指「做……」】
1.We want to have a table near the window.
（我們要靠窗的桌子。）
【當形容詞用，指「為了做……的」】
2.I want something to eat.
（我想要點吃的東西。）
【當副詞用，指「為了做……」】
3.My mother uses hot water to wash very dirty clothes or dishes.
（我媽用熱水洗很髒的衣物或碗盤）
不定詞「to＋原形動詞」在保有動詞特性的同時，也具備名詞、形容詞、副詞的特性，亦即分別當作名詞、形容詞、副詞使用。
例句 1 的 want to have 是「想要……」的意思，這裡不定詞是當作名詞的用法。在餐廳等地方想取得喜歡的位置時，可使用這句。若在火車或飛機上時，可將 a table 改成 a seat 來運用。
例句 2 的 something to eat 是「供食用的東西」，也就是「食物」的意思，不定詞是當作形容詞的用法。
當作形容詞用的不定詞和形容詞一樣，修飾名詞或代名詞。
例句 3 的 use hot water to wash 是「為了洗……而使用熱水」的意思，不定詞當作副詞使用。
例句 1, 2, 3 都是「to + 動詞原形」。
請看下面例句。仔細觀察各例句當中的不定詞用法。
1.I’m glad to see you again.
（很高興再見到你。）
2.I’m here to talk to Prof. Wang.
（我來找王教授談話。）
3.I’m going to Fukuoka next month to study for three months.
（下個月我要到福岡研修三個月。）
4.I come here to work.
（我來這裡的目的是工作。）
5.I’m not in a position to answer that.
（我的立場沒辦法回答那個問題。）
6.When shall I come to see you next time?
（下次什麼時候來看你比較好？）
7.I’m sorry to bother you.
（不好意思打擾你。）
8.I hate to tell you, but he is nasty.1
（我實在不想跟你說，但他真的很討人厭。）
9.I just wanted to tell you that your speech was wonderful.
（我只是想告訴你，你的演說真的很精采。）
例句 1 是 ＜be動詞+表達感情的形容詞+to……＞ 的句型。be glad to see是「高興見到」。
例句 2是去找人談話時的慣用句。
例句 3 是「為了受訓」的意思，不定詞當作副詞使用。
例句 4 是「為了工作」的意思，不定詞也當副詞使用。
例句 5 的不定詞前面有 a position 名詞。不定詞用來修飾這個名詞，當作形容詞使用。
例句 6 是跟對方約時間時所使用的慣用語。因為是「為了見面而來」，所以不定詞是當作副詞使用。
例句 7 是打擾他人時使用的慣用語，不定詞當副詞修飾其前面的形容詞sorry。
例句 8 是從 I want to tell you. 的句型「我想告訴你」→「有話想對你說」，是不定詞當作名詞的用法。
以下再舉幾個在會話當中常用的句型。
1.I have something to tell you.
（我有事要告訴你。）
★不定詞當形容詞用，修飾something。
2.To be fair, he is wise.
（平心而論，他很聰明。）
★To be fair 是「平心而論」的慣用句。
3.To tell the truth, I don’t like her.
（老實說，我不喜歡她。）
★To tell the truth 是「老實說」的慣用句。
4.I am in between1 jobs, to be frank.
（坦白說，我現在沒有工作。）
★To be frank 是「坦白說」的意思。
