Jean: And make a pile of things that you haven't worn in a year.
Eddy: Are you going to throw that pile out?
Jean: It will go to the Salvation Army. What's this?
Eddy: Don't open that 7)drawer!
Jean: It 8)reeks in there! I don't want to know. Just have it empty by time I get back.
Eddy: Will do.

News Talk-2 The Million Star Gang

(Freddy sees his coworker Xiu-ping watching an online video.)

Freddy: Wow! Who's that? He's quite the singer.
Xiu-fang: He's Aska Yang.
Freddy: He has a great voice. Is he famous?
Xiu-fang: He is now. This is from a singing competition show called One Million Star. But he was a nobody before he got on this show.
Freddy: Sounds a lot like American Idol.
Xiu-fang: It is, except only the judges vote for the 1)finalists.
Freddy: I like the tune of that song.
Xiu-fang: Yeah, and he sings it well. It's called “2)Traitor.”
Freddy: Did he write it himself?
Xiu-fang: No, that's the funny thing. He's singing someone else's song, and the song wasn't well-known until he sang it.
Freddy: So this no-name singer made a famous singer's unfamous song famous?
Xiu-fang: (Laughs) Yeah, you got it. The song was originally on another guy's 3)album, but it never sold well. Then after Aska sang it on this show, the album sold like 50 thousand more copies!
Freddy: Kind of a reverse case of riding somebody's coattails!
Xiu-fang: You could say that.

The Power of Flags

Flags are now seen every day, but they were once only used in battles. No one knows for sure where flags came from. However, it seems that China and the Roman Empire were the first ones to use them to identify their armies. The earliest flags were actually wooden statues which were raised up on long poles. Soon, this design changed. People added small pieces that could move in the wind. Later, flags that were made of fabric became the most popular design.

Flags are also important for religious reasons. Tibetan prayer flags have been used in Buddhism for hundreds of years. These flags are strung on ropes in windy places. It is believed that the flags' good luck and prayers are carried around the world by the wind.

In the 13th century, ships began to hang flags. Not only did vessels display their national flags, but sailors also used flags to signal to other boats. Throughout history, the purpose and usage of flags have grown. However, flags are no longer carried into battle. This is simply because the people who carry them would be in too much danger.
